Pigging in the maintenance of pipelines refers to the practice of using pipeline inspection gauges or 'pigs' to perform various operations on a pipeline without stopping the flow of the product in the pipeline.

Intelligent pigs, also known as inline inspection (ILI) tool or smart pig, are electronic devices designed to flow on the inside of a transmission pipeline, usually while the line is in service. It is known primarily to inspect a pipeline for various types of anomalies that can increase the risks of pipeline failure.

They comprise of a combination of sophisticated electronic devices utilizing various technologies and include signal sources, sensors to detect various anomalies, onboard computer(s) to gather and collect data, and power sources to drive all the electronics. Together this equipment mounted on a pig sled can easily exceed several tons in weight, especially those tools for larger diameter pipelines. The term “intelligent pig” is utilized to differentiate the tools containing sophisticated electronics from more conventional pigs such as cleaning (i.e. poly, brush, bullet, etc.), gauging, or batch pigs that are simple mechanical devices run in pipelines for various purposes

The product in pipeline such as natural gas or crude oil pushes the pig and inspects the condition of the pipe. They have been in commercial use since 1965, primarily for the detection of wall thinning caused by ordinary corrosion. The pipeline operator is demanding intelligent pigs that could pass along multi diameter pipelines and bends, that could detect the precise location of any problem, and that does not interfere with or need the flowing material to still be operational.

There are several different technologies used in intelligent pigs to locate problems along the pipelines. Magnets have been used to detect corrosion where the most common technology is the Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) that detects corrosion on thinning walls. Another detection technology uses ultrasonic sensors to detect coating disbondment, cracks, dents and gouges. The MFL has been proved suitably use in gas pipeline rather than ultrasonic technology because of it attribute. MFL does not require any liquid couplant to transmit the signal for detection. The Global Positioning System (GPS) technology is being currently adapted to intelligent pigs to obtain the exact location of any problem in the pipe or to map the pipe itself.

The information which can be provided by intelligent pig covers a much wider range of inspections and troubleshooting needs rather than geometry/diameter measurement and for metal loss/corrosion detection. These include:

• Diameter/geometry measurements;
• Curvature monitoring;
• Pipeline profile;
• Temperature/pressure recording;
• Bend measurement;
• Metal-loss/corrosion detection
• Photographic inspection;
• Crack detection;
• Wax deposition measurement;
• Leak detection;
• Product sampling, and;
• Mapping

Most of pipeline operator use intelligent pigs for their pipeline integrity assessment all around the world especially in oil and gas industry. They are able to provide a much wider range of services including geometry measurement, detection of leak, temperature and pressure recording, bend measurement, wax deposition measurement, curvature monitoring, pipeline profile mapping, metal loss detection, photographic inspection and crack detection. Intelligent pigging, when properly applied, can serve as a superior inspection tool for many risks of concern over other integrity inspection methods. A proper intelligent pigging program can play a vital role in integrity management.

Happiness

Seeking satisfaction of desires is intrinsic to human nature. The satisfaction is supposed to lead to happiness and it may rarely happen. Desires are endless, one gets satisfied and is promptly replaced by others. Satisfaction is simply reflection of the past while wishes, desires, and ambitions are things in the future. The future is just a dream and the past is memory. It is only the present that one is in real contact with and has any control over; what one does in the present shapes the future. Understanding this simple fact can go a long way in finding happiness and success.

Happiness is an attitude of mind and it can only come from within. There is no 'how to' help for being happy. Success does not necessarily bring happiness unless it is considered in terms of achievement and self-satisfaction. But that happiness is always temporary. Success and achievement both imply an end - the end of an effort. Happiness is not some destination we arrive at; it is always from moment to moment and therefore, in the present.

The main problem lies in understanding what happiness is. Understanding is not a matter of knowledge; it is always intuitive and comes like a flash. Happiness that results from any thought or action is different from the one that comes spontaneously, for example, from watching the beauty of a serene sunset or some other phenomena in nature. In that enchanting moment the person becomes one with nature without any thought in the mind. The same happens when there is no desire. Desire always brings thinking and the mind can never be calm while thinking.

It may be argued that watching nature or listening to music is also a kind of action that is always prompted by some motive. Life itself is action. What we are talking about is action without any desire for the result associated with it. It is extremely difficult to put this into practice but in a way we do it all the time. We do not breathe thinking that it is a matter of life and death. There are other functions of the body of which we are not conscious. In nature it happens all the time. A flower blooms without any expectation that it will be appreciated and will be useful to others. A bird sings with no thought of whether or not anyone will listen to its song. Everything in nature represents self-expression. If we take the clue from nature, we should also be able to consider every action as self-expression.

Another negative aspect of action prompted by desire is that one wastes precious time in waiting anxiously for the result. The satire of the life for most of us is that we are all waiting for something. The object of waiting may be as mundane and commonplace as waiting for the result of a lottery or it may be as lofty as waiting for nirvana. In almost all cases the result is uncertain and beyond our control. Once we realize this fact it may be easier to perform action without any concern about the result.

The action resulting from desire may not be always related to the expectation of fruit.Still it has a negative aspect; if the person is conscious of the action. It is no longer self-expression. Virtues in people are admired. However, if a virtue is practiced deliberately, it is no longer a virtue. Take humility for example. If we are being humble fully aware of our humility, it ceases to be humility; it becomes a part of our ego. In an abstract way the same is true of happiness. As soon as we become conscious of our happiness we cease to be happy; the mind gets involved in a thought process and drifts away from the state of happiness.

Happiness is always related to an individual. It is clear that we have been talking about two different types of happiness. One relates to the body and the other to the soul, which represent the duality inherent to an individual's existence. Both types of happiness are desirable, and even essential in life. No happiness lasts forever. The happiness that comes from the fulfillment of desires is transient because it benefits only the body and the ego. That which comes from the calm state of mind and is self-expression benefits the soul and in that sense it is not temporary. The body is perishable, the soul is not.

Love is any of number of emotions as well as experiences related to a sense of strong affection or intense oneness. Love can have a wide variety of intended meanings.

Romantic love is seen as a deep, indescribable feeling of deep and tender attraction shared in passionate or intimate attraction .Love can also be conceived of as platonic love, religious love, familial love, and, more casually, great affection for anything considered strongly pleasurable, desirable, or preferred, including activities and foods.

Sometime love may hurt…One of my friends has just broken up with his girlfriend. Pity him. I could understand what he’s feeling and thinking. But I think as a man, he should be stronger. Through his sigh, I know that he still love his girlfriend even he kept saying “takpela, mungkin Tuhan nak kasi jumpa dgn org yg lebih baik lg”. I know that he still love her and hope she will come back to him even he kept denying it.

He frequently asked me for a girl during their crisis and after they broke up. I don’t know which friends (girl) of mine suit him. I’m not so sure whether this kind of way would help him forget what has happened to him. Maybe he should go on holiday or do outdoor activities.

He was quite shocked when he found out that his girlfriend befriends with one guy and I thought he was jealous and angry. If I’ve not mistaken, they were couple since six year ago. He did anything for her. I could see his great affection toward her. They were blissful and happy couple. Their parents have given fully consent for their relationship and I predicted they will be married soon. But, we are just able to plan and The Almighty will decide.

I still remembered during his crisis, almost everyday they quarreled by phone. He has bought a lot of top up card and yielded nothing in his attempt to get her back. He even cried in one night, maybe because it was hard to get her back. He did not aware I was not sleep yet that night and I could hear he was crying. Pity him. Oh God, could we imagine a guy crying, so embarrassing and awful. For me, I’ll say to him “hey man you should be stronger. What the fucking shit you are crying because of that fucking stupid girl who dumped you”.

He told me he will never love someone like he did to her. I hope he will be stronger and can learn something based on what happened. For the fucking stupid girl, we should not fully blame her and it is possible she has her own reasons. I expect he learn from his or her mistake and grab something valuable and maybe meaningful from what has happened between them.
